February 14th is right around the corner- 2 ½ weeks to be exact. The most common date idea for Valentine’s Day is dinner and roses. Are you trying to think of date ideas outside of the box for this year? Let the Forum aid you in ideas!
A museum date. The Tallahassee Museum is having a special event called “Treemondous and canopy glow flight.” Enjoy the zip lines, bridges, tightropes and other fun tree-top challenges lit by colorful LED lights. How about a drive to Thomasville, Georgia? Thomasville is known for its old-world feel. Located an hour north from Tallahassee, the drive to Thomasville is a sight on its own. Take a drive there and pack a picnic! If all else fails, stay in with your significant other. Between getting off work late to class and assignments… sometimes it’s even difficult leaving the house. Make dinner together, play board games, maybe order in, bake cookies. Love doesn’t cost a thing; It’s all about creating that pleasurable cozy feeling with everyday moments!
With 2017 quickly coming and going, it is now a new year, new us! New year’s resolution are so popular during this time because, what better time to start fresh than a new year? As college students, we take actions based on planning. New Year’s resolutions motivate us to improve our lives and the lives of others. Further, we derive more pleasure from chasing our dreams rather than achieving them. New year’s resolutions are fun! Just about anything can count as a new year’s resolution. If you would like to make a resolution this year, here are some options to consider:
Save $10 weekly
Run a mile a day
Go to class on a regular basis
As a reminder, New Year’s resolutions are not easy. They require an amount of attention and dedication. Don’t worry if you slip up once or twice. If you stay committed, you’ll be proud of yourself at the end and you’ll feel better at the end of the year than you did at the beginning. Happy New Years!
We have now reached the cold months here in Florida and that means we will be utilizing our heater and consuming more electricity than normal. Luckily, the Forum has got you covered on ways to save money on your electricity bill –
The Sun – The sun is nature’s free heater. Try minimizing your heater usage to the nighttime hours and during the day, opening your blinds which allows the sun to naturally heat your apartment.
Keep your vents open – Though it might seem rather obvious, your vent might have been previously closed and you haven’t even noticed! After opening them, the A/C will no longer struggle reaching your preferred temperature.
Using a power strip for your appliances and electronics – Appliance and electronic energy accounts for about 17% of your electricity bill. Knowing this, it would be ultra-annoying having to manually unplug all of our appliances and electronics daily. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Instead, you can connect all of your appliances and electronics to a power strip and turn of the power strip when needed.
Use LED lights – Use LED lights when decorating your apartment for the holidays. LED lights use 75% less energy and last 25% more than regular lights.
Accessories – Instead of constantly fighting with the temperature, you might want to use accessories that will keep you warm. Sweaters, fuzzy socks, and blankets will all keep you warm. Also, a rug in your apartment will insulate the floor making it warmer.
This month is where we’re buying holiday gifts. College students struggle enough as it is!! Keep these tips in mind so we can all struggle a little less.
